Americans at a grocery store in New Zealand

Store clerk: Good morning, the two of you look a little lost, I'm keen to help you today.

First American: Hi, yes. My roommate and I would love your help. We are looking for some bell peppers, sweet potatoes, oatmeal, and kiwis for the days we are feeling healthy, but on days we don't care we really need some cookies, fries, and any candy you have. Lastly, we are grilling out this weekend with some friends and need good stuff to grill up.

Second American looks at First American and continues.

Second American: Oh shoot, we can't forget that we are also going to the beach so we are going to need one of those things that keep our food cold and swim suits!

Pause

The store clerk ponders for awhile.

Store clerk: Pardon?

First American: Ummm, bell peppers, sweet potatoes, oatmeal, kiwis, cookies, fries, candy, food to grill, something that keeps our food cold, and swim suites for when we go to the beach? Here, take the list!

Store clerk looks over the list.

Store clerk: Sweet as, I can help.

The store clerk reads the list out loud to the Americans, just to make sure.

Store clerk: So, you flatmates need some capsicum, kumara, porridge, people that live in New Zealand, biscuits, chips, lollies, food for a barbecue, a chilly bin and some togs. I'd recommend wearing some jandals too because those beaches can get hot and you won't want to burn the bottom of your feet. You know, come to think of it, there is a great place down the street that barbecues and you can get it for takeaway and eat it at home. Therefore, you don't have to cook.

Second American: Exactly, but we want the kiwi foooood?! Can you point us to which aisles we can find this stuff in? Also, thank you for the tips. We will keep that place in mind.

Store clerk: Oh, you mean kiwi fruit. Look in aisles 1, 4, 5, 11, and 17. If you plan on eating at the beach make sure to bring a rubbish bag, incase you throw things away. Also, it cools down later at night so bring a jumper.

First American: Thank you! Have a great day.

Store clerk: Cheers!

Hint: There are 17 different things New Zealand people say verse Americans. Can you find them?
